TV UX New Generation

What it does

In 2016, NOS deployed Europe’s first RDK 4K STB, with a brand new UX developed jointly with a leading design studio.

We named it UMA and we are convinced it is one of the best TV experiences in the world.

Main Advantages

It’s fully customizable to operators requirements since it’s HTML and RDK based. Freedom to decide where and how your TV solution will evolve one of the key aspects to bear in mind. The other is to have a world class TV solution to offer to your customers. And it comes alongside with the new OTT UX.

We’re convinced that the new UX is definitely worth taking a look at by any Operator considering to evolve the TV experience.

Quantification

Our new TV UX allows navigation at the same speed at which you browse your smarthphone or laptop. No merging crazy about the laziness of the TV experience.

We also delivered zapping under 500ms for consecutive channels and topped it with a voice a controlled remote control.

UMA is very visual and enriched with HD imagens for all contents, regardless of their nature. And it is tailored to each user, based on profiles.

Cloud Backoffice Platform (iCBP)

Components

Network PVR

What it does

Allows service providers to manage the complete recording ecosystem in a flexible manner. It also eliminates the need for individual user storage space in set-top boxes by providing a central location where all recorded programs could be stored and easily accessible.

Main Advantages

Besides the immediate savings generated by removing the hard disk from all STB's, providing customers with the ability of watching any event aired in the past within a defined time slot (e.g. 1 week) is a game changer (at NOS we named it TIMEWARP).

Additionally, NOS solution has been evolving to support all the use cases requested by content providers to ensure there is full compliance with those concerns. The solution is also ready to address single and multi copy scenarios.

Quantification

At NOS, more than 750,000 customers use NPVR (2015).

NOS customers latest satisfaction survey regarding the TIMEWARP feature puts it at 90% both in relevance and reliability, stating the importance of this innovative feature.

Regarding the saving per STB, it's aproximately 35 EUR, making the move to NPVR a rational decision also in economical terms.

Components

AAAA

What it does

Gathers all the users rights into a single platform. Responsible for managing the authentication, authorization, auditing and accounting processes in order to deliver accurate responses based on the users permissions and subscribed services.

Main Advantages

This solution eliminates the need for different systems to duplicate the same processes, by concentrating responsabilities that can be shared across all devices and platforms that require this information, including all requests received from TV, OTT devices and web platforms.

Quantification

At NOS, the AAAA platform handles 1.5 million requests daily. The response time of each authentication request is 100ms.

Youtube Player

What it does

Through public YouTube API's, the YouTube Player allows playing videos from this platform on TV.

Main Advantages

Bringing YouTube into the big screen on the household through the STB ads value to the overall TV experience.

Quantification

NOS has dozens of APPS on the TV. Although the YouTube Player is one of the most recent ones, it already features at the top of the most used ever.

OTT (PC, Tablet and Smartphone)

What it does

Deliver TV content to any device on the go.

Main Advantages

The OTT solution mimics not only the look and feel of the TV solution, but also the features, including the possibility of watching events that already aired. In the future it will allow access to recordings made on the cloud.

Quantification

All IRIS customers (aprox. 1,000,000) have access to the OTT solution for free. The look and feel of the OTT experience is fully aligned with the TV UX. “- Best TV on the Move Service (TV Connect Industry Awards, 2012)”

Cloud Middleware (iCM)

What it does

Cutting edge solution that enables service providers to quickly go to market with a proven robust implementation of the most advanced features in pay-TV, by performing all the developments required on the cloud.

Main Advantages

Taking full advantage of the IP connectivity on the STB, the Cloud Middleware provides a multidevice generic API layer that allows service providers to increase their time to market capabilities to launch and integrate the most advanced features into their TV offer, such as Live TV, VoD, Metadata, Search, Access to Apps, Profiling, Likes Management, Facebook Association and Highlights.

Quantification

NOS has more than 1,000,000 customers with its most advanced TV and multi device solution. Besides reaching higher satisfaction and lower customer churn, it has won several international industry awards including:

Cloud Content Manager System (iCCMS)

Components

EPG Reloaded

What it does

Allows a flexible approach to EPG data collection, transformation and delivery process, according to the service provider specific needs and business rules and their multi-device front-end infrastructures.

Main Advantages

Enables service providers to fully customize EPG data without requiring major efforts to adjust formats from the original EPG providers. The solution is prepared to support, manage, validate multiple EPG formats and quickly dispatch them to the service providers specific front-end platforms.

Quantification

Daily ingest of EPG data is almost 100% automatic at NOS due to the implementation of this approach.

Components

CTI + IPQM

What it does

Non linear asset management platform that improves the service provider autonomy and ability to define, publish and monetize on-demand assets delivered across several platforms.

Main Advantages

Rather than offering a standard content management system that has limited flexibility and demands for considerable resource allocation for any additional change, this solution is focused on delivering an open, central and fully customizable platform that supports multiple workflows, delivery mechanisms, business models, content types and multiple catalogues, while being agnostic to delivery networks and client devices.

Quantification

NOS has more than 20,000 unique non linear assets currently available on its VOD catalogue across several plataforms.

Companion App

What it does

Syncronize the tablet with the TV and find out more about what you’re watching.

More than 50,000 customers have downloaded the companion App.

Audience Measurement

What it does

The Audience Measurement provides not only live TV statistics, on any device, but also non-linear content usage to ensure full understanding of customer behaviour.

Main Advantages

It is used not only to understand the real value of each channel and each content, but also to detect and act to prevent churn, by looking at customers with low engagement, and subscribed but not watched packages.

Quantification

NOS has deployed this solution and currently gathers relevant CRM ino about the viewing habits of more than 1 million customers, using it as input for business decisions.

Equipment Design

What it does

NOS hired a leading design house to create the design of the TV STB, Internet Gateway and Remote Control

Main Advantages

Aligned and sophisticated look and feel of the three devices, without the cost and lead time of doing a project from scratch. Significant cost saving on production.

Quantification

There are more than 2,000,000 units deployed in total.

Instant Channel Change (work in progress)

What it does

It will change the paradigm of slow zapping in the cable industry.

Main Advantages

Zapping speed equivalent to an IP experience.

Quantification

We're working on the technology to ensure that any zapping will take less than 500ms. Currently it is already working for sequential channels.
